The Primary chorister provided the children with homemade chocolate chip cookies. The children had earned each ingredient for singing well the previous Sunday. The thought occurred to me that I should ask about allergies. Someone mentioned a little boy in the Sunbeam class. I went and found his mother, and asked her. She said her son was allergic to eggs and peanuts. That meant he could not have the cookies. I did manage to get a small bag of fruit snacks for him. When it came time to hand out the cookies, he received the alternative treat. It was very sad. He put his head down, and he wouldn’t look up. He didn’t make a sound, but his shoulders shook a little. I felt really bad. I am glad that I was prompted to inquire about allergies, but I wish we had planned better. Monday, August 9, 2010
Trick-or-Treat

Oh, I know that pain. Peter's old enough to understand that he can't have the same food other kids can, but it's still hard sometimes.
I'm really glad you had the thought to ask beforehand. And, in case you need a treat in the future, let me know. I realize I'm too far away to bake something for you, but I do have lots of allergy friendly recipes and substitutes that I would be more than happy to share.
